The track season has been underway for a while now. While athletes have been mentioned for their outstanding performances, I believe it is time to get to know each of these athletes with weekly installments of information on one gal and one guy. For this week we will start by focusing on Megan Broderick (per request of Wilder Treadway,) and Darryl Bradshaw.
Megan Broderick is a Senior Distance runner from Tampa Bay, Florida.
Megan has an interesting story as this is her first season competing for the UK Track and Field program. She spent her four years as a Wildcat playing Tennis with what is another impressive team that UK boasts.
Megan was/is a very good Tennis player. She was ranked the 11th best prep out of high school and played a good portion of her career in the Number 1 singles spot for the Cats. So, Megan is good at tennis, but can she run? I think you know the answer to that. Yes.
In Megan’s first year of running she has impressed. She did run in high school but after a three year break from competitive running she seems to have found her stride quickly. Megan helped the Cross Country team in the fall by placing in the top 5 on the girl’s team in multiple meets and has come out running well in indoor track.
In the most recent meet, the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame, Megan ran a 4:58.37 Mile.
It is rare that you see a D1 College athlete compete in multiple sports and Megan’s decision to help out the Track and Field team is one that must come from school pride as well as a competitive desire to get back out on the track.
I expect to see some good times from Megan this spring.
-Megan is a Mid-Distance runner as she focuses on the 800 to One mile event.
Her best times for the events are as listed…
800- 2:15.95
1000- 2:53.94
One mile- 4:58.37

Now, on to meeting a male member of this UK team. Darryl Bradshaw is a Junior from Brooklyn, N.Y. Bradshaw attended Sheepshead Bay High and is a transfer from Bethune-Cookman. I’d say he made the right decision.
Darryl has been able to compete for UK in his freshman and sophomore years as he transferred in time.
Bradshaw is what one would call a Hurdler and Sprinter. He does the short explosive events that require an impressive amount of speed and timing.
Darryl has started this 2012 indoor season off strong with an personal record in the 200 meter dash at the Rod McCravy Memorial Track Meet. He ran a 22.53 in that event.
Darryl has a wide array of talents on the track and one cool claim he holds is that he was a member of the 2008 and 2009 national champion 4×100 meter relay. Now this relay was run in his high school days but he’s still a national champion. That’s pretty neat.
As a Freshman Darryl was named to the All SEC Freshman Team. He carries the sixth fastest 60 meter hurdle time in UK history. Glad he decided to leave Bethume-Cookwoman and join the Cats
Darryl’s personal records are as listed…
100 Meter Dash- 10.98 Seconds
110 Meter Hurdles- 13.90 Seconds
200 Meter Dash- 22.53 Seconds
60 Meter Hurdles- 7.94 Seconds
The Track team is heading to two separate meets this weekend. The distance team is headed to the University of Washington and the rest of the crew is destined for the SPIRE Collegiate Invitational in Ohio. Stay Tuned for updates on how they fare.
