It’s been a week since Kentucky’s last game and I think we’re all a little antsy. Don’t worry, that’s completely natural. Just remember that we’re all in this together. This gap between games has given us a commitment from yet another star recruit and BBN nation has been occupied with thoughts of what should be a helluva 2013-14 team. But now it’s time to shift our focus back to the present. Today the news is focused squarely on the rumble in Memorial Gymnasium slated for tomorrow night.
The last time these teams met the Commodores handed the Cats an entirely meaningless loss. Yes, it was the SEC championship, but last years team had locked up the number 1 overall seed and was rightfully focused on the big dance. That game might ordinarily have some meaning but both of these teams are completely different from the ones that duked it out last March. Both coaches echoed this sentiment, Calipari saying, ”The guys that I’m coaching may not even know that game happened,” and Stallings added, ”The personnel is just so different for both teams.”
If you hadn’t heard, Vanderbilt is not good at basketball this year. As a student there I can attest to the lack of enthusiasm surrounding this year’s team. I can tell you this, though, that will change tomorrow night. Even if it’s just for one game Memorial Gymnasium will be loud and the student will be packed and hostile. Can you blame em’ though? I mean, it’s not every day that the basketball Cats come to town. Tomorrow night I will be doing my part as a member of the Big Blue Nation to curb the enthusiasm of the crowd. Like I’ve done the past two years I will be in the student section, donning my lucky Kelenna Azubuike jersey, cheering on the Cats. #OccupyMemorial. We should have no problem beating this Vanderbilt team, but as I wrote earlier this week there’s something about that gym and this game that makes me nervous.
In some more trivial news Vanderbilt will be handing out replica SEC championship rings to the first 1,000 fans and the first 500 students to enter the game. I’m fairly confident I’ll be getting one as I plan to camp out in front of the student entrance for the better part of the day. Any ideas for what I should do with it?
