Becca Greenwell Breaks a National Record

by @ 11:48 pm. Filed under All Cats Everything

I got this picture from the Amsterdam FIBA website. She’s kind of a big deal.

When my sisters started playing intense AAU basketball in high school, my Dad came home after one of their practices wide-eyed. “There’s a girl on your sisters’ team that’s the REAL DEAL. She’s a year younger, but plays a year older.” I kept my eye on Owensboro Catholic’s all-star; look at her now. Tonight in a first round All A Classic Regional game against Whitesville Trinity, Becca Greenwell hit 17 3-pointers setting a NFHS High School record. She finished with 51 points in her team’s 99-35 victory.

The most impressive part? She was most concerned with beating her sister’s school record of 10 in a game. Greenwell suffered a torn ACL her Junior season, but is still just 3 points shy of 3,000 in her career.

A Quick Resume

– #6 player in the nation committed to Duke

– Gold Medalist in 2011 16U FIBA Americas FIBA Championship. Tournament Co-MVP and set 16U Team USA record for points per game (15.6)

– Was named First Team All-State and Regional POY twice.

– Her Favorite Basketball Player Michael Kidd-Gilchrist plays on her favorite basketball team the Kentucky Wildcats.

Just another example of a coach showing poor sportsmanship by letting his all american player run up the score on a less talented team for headlines. Shame on Owensboro Catholic and Ray Zuberer.
