Wednesday Basketball News

by @ 12:00 pm. Filed under All Cats Everything

Most of the news today revolves around the win over Tennessee last night. I know there’s already been plenty written about the game but seeing as it’s the only real news from the last 24 hours we’re gonna talk about it a little more.

-Kentucky beat Tennessee last night by the score of 75-65. Kentucky was leading the Vols for the majority of the second half, only to have the score tied up with just over 6 minutes left to play. If I’m being perfectly honest I have to admit that my confidence levels were extremely low at this point. But in those last 6 minutes a pair of unusual suspects carried us home. Julius “treys” Mays hit back-to-back three pointers, which were followed by Kyle Wiltjer’s back-to-back scores in the paint. All in all, I think the end of this game was very encouraging to see.

-I think I’m just going to create a template for Nerlens Noel that I can just copy and past into these posts: Nerlens Noel did it all last night in Kentucky’s win over Tennessee. He finished the game with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 6 blocks, and 4 steals. Although he filled up the stat sheet, his hard work and intensity on the court is was continues to really impress me. This guy gives 110% every time he steps onto the court. We’re going to need this level of intensity from everyone on Saturday against Auburn as well as every game down the stretch.

-Time for a speed round. Kyle Wiltjer showed signs of emerging from his slump and finished the game with a team high 17. Julius Mays’ play was also encouraging. He scored 9 points including 2 big threes at the end of the game. Archie Goodwin continues to drive us crazy. His talent is undisputable, but he cant seem to work his game into the flow of the offense. Harrow was good but not great, and Poythress had ten points and 8 rebounds.

-Remember that plan to build a new Rupp Arena that no one is talking about? Well guess what? The nice folks over at the Architect’s Newspaper are talking about it. And you can read what they’re saying right here.

Did I read it right (not here but somewhere) that Jay Bilas says NN is one of the most overrated players in the game? I have a great deal of respect for Jay Bilas as he usually has it right on, but not this time. I think he’ll be changing his tune very soon.

Jay Said he was one of the most underrated I believe
