McGee and Macumber shared SEC Runner of the Week honors
Cally Macumber placed 6th in the 2012 NCAA Division 1 Women’s Cross Country Championships. That was a huge feat, absolutely monumental. After such a stellar Cross Country season where she also won the SEC Championships, one might have wondered where she’d pick up in track. Well, just a few weeks into the indoor season, she seems primed to continue making huge strides. Macumber was recently named the SEC Co-Runner of the Week for her performance at the Kentucky Invitational this past weekend. After leading off the Distance Medley Relay with the 1200 meter leg on Friday night, Macumber turned around to run the fastest mile time in the SEC to date on Saturday. Her time of 4:42.30 is a PR for the Rochester, Michigan native and also ranks 2nd in the nation at this juncture.
Macumber shared the honors with Florida’s Cory McGee who ran a 2:09.1 800 meter to win the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener held at Alabama of course.
A select few Cats will head to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Cherry and Silver meet before UK hosts its next indoor meet January 25th and 26th, the Rod McCravy Memorial.
