UK Gymnastics Contend with Ninth Ranked Arkansas in Home Opener.

by @ 10:00 pm. Filed under All Cats Everything, Gymnastics

The UK Gymnastics team released their team intro video today to get the word out about their home-opener “Excite Night” against the #9 Arkansas Razorbacks (Hogs??).  The meet is tomorrow night at 7pm in Memorial Coliseum and promises a fantastic matchup between two top 15 teams.

Arkansas owns the series with the Cats, 18-1-1, but are looking for revenge. Kentucky snapped their 17 meet winning streak last season in the SEC championship 194.950-194.175. Gymnasts to watch include Katherine Grable who is fifth in the nation in the all round and tied for 19th on vault, 12th on beam and fifth on the floor. Sydnie Dillard is tied with her team-mate for 12th in the nation on beam and is the reigning SEC Freshman of the week. Arkansas has also had a great freshman class that came in this year with standouts such as Erin Freir who is a contender on the vault and beam, Keara Glover, who competes on bars and beam, and Heather Elswich who competes on three apparatuses for the Razorbacks.

Kentucky is off to its best start in school history, averaging 195.325. They are ranked ninth on bars, 19th on vault, 16th on floor and 23rd on the beam. Kayla Hartley and Audrey Harrison are both having a fantastic season thus far for the Cats. Harrison is averaging 39.125 and is tied for 23rd for the all around ranks. Hartley is tied for 17th on the floor with a 9.875 average.

If you haven’t been watching the gym cats this season, tonight would be the perfect time to start. Big things are expected out of this team and it all starts tomorrow night at 7. You can follow the Gymnastics twitter at @UKGymnastics for updates during the meet.

Go Cats!!!! @JC_KSR

Without a doubt, Excite night is one of the most fun sporting events of the year…especially if you have daughters. It absolutely rocks.
