Today the Football team took the field for a scrimmage for the second consecutive week at Commonwealth Stadium. Joker Phillips asked the team for the best scrimmage since he’s been here. Maxwell Smith responded. Smith threw 4 Touchdown passes, including a 98 yarder that was called back because he was sacked. LaRod King and Demarco Robinson caught two touchdowns apiece and Smith said he would’ve had another if a ref didn’t get in the way. Coach Phillips said that Robinson is showing everybody that he is going to be a playmaker for this team. Here’s what Smith had to say about Robinson.
Demarco he knows all the signals he knows everything. He’s lines up right, where sometimes he wasn’t doing that but now he has a real good grasp of the offense. He’s got to be a big-time contributor for this offense.
We need guys to dance around and make some plays, they have to be. Like Coach says we don’t have many erasers and those guys can be erasers as their careers progress, they’re going to have to be big-time guys for us. In the summer time we’re going to work, I know I’m going to get Daryl (Collins) and we’re going to get it right on everything.
- You might be asking yourself, what in the world is an eraser? They are the Randall Cobb’s of the world that can “erase” a previous bad play. Catchy ain’t it?
- Smith did not turn the ball over today, but did have to run stairs with Raymond Sanders after practice. The two botched a handoff on a stretch play, but did in fact recover the ball.
-Quote of the Day: “Football’s not for everybody. It’s a man’s game. It’s not a boy’s game.” -Rick Minter discussing the departure of multiple players last week.
