As if the University of Kentucky hasn’t won enough already this year in…every sport imaginable…..the men’s tennis team clinched their first outright regular season championship ever, and their first championship overall since 1992 today. They had a dominating performance against Vanderbilt, beating them 6-1, to clinch the trophy, and their first undefeated SEC season in school history. The Wildcats finish the season a perfect 11-0, in the toughest conference in America.
In his 30th year, head coach Dennis Emery is a happy man. He said himself he didn’t think this team would be able to do this, facing a multitude of very tough opponents on route to a historic season. Him, and the team agree however, that this is just the beginning. They have their sights set on postseason play now, with the SEC Tournament starting next week, in Starkville, Mississippi.
It was a great day for the 2 seniors for UK. Eric Quigley and Alex Musialek have been the anchors for the Wildcats, the two leaders that have led them to this level of success. They both won their matches, and continue their historic seasons.
