When Nerlens Noel announced live on ESPNU via high top fade his decision to attend the University of Kentucky, he etched his name into the future of Big Blue Nation folklore. As someone who covers the basketball team, and subsequently the players themselves, Nerlens Noel looks like a slam dunk for a year’s worth of entertainment. A 6’10, athletic big man who blocks shots with a ferocity not seen by any Kentucky player since April 2nd, all the while with a beautifully manicured high top resting upon his head reminiscent of a young, Kenny “Sky” Walker, who coincidentally, also played at Kentucky. The hair is even the same shape!
After submitting his official Letter of Intent to the University, Nerlens decided that he would “officially” visit the place that he will call home in a few short months, and popped into Lexington over the weekend to mingle with his newfound fans and investigate first hand the goings on at Keeneland. Fans across the city and Nerlens himself chronicled his visit for us this weekend:
Nerlens visited the students at the Henry Clay HS Prom, and gave one lucky couple a prom photo of a lifetime with a future UK and NBA star. Let’s hope this happy prom picture will be resting upon their fireplace for years and years to come.
Of course, Nerlens hung out with Anthony Davis, his predecessor in the paint at Kentucky. They more than likely spent the weekend comparing hair styles and discussing the prospects of someday leading the Charlotte Bobcats to an NBA Title.
Keeneland was crazy, #9 won which is a good sign #BBN haha. Now im to the football game

Nerlens enjoyed his time at Keeneland, and even lucky horse #9 stepped it up in an effort to show Lexington’s newest son a great time.
He also signed some autographs for the dozens of fans at Commonwealth Stadium after catching an afternoon of spring football. All in all, Noel showed this weekend that he has taken an enormous liking to the Big Blue Nation, which is something that has never worked out bad for anybody. His voluntary interactions with the fans are refreshing, and removes any doubt that he will be able to handle the spotlight and rockstar status he will have the second he steps foot on campus for real, and in fact seems to be embracing it. I can’t wait to see what other quirky things he comes up with to adhere to the Nation, because after a beginning like this, he seems poised to become a fan favorite.
