I’m not going to lie, I am usually the first person to complain when it comes to the student seat locations in Rupp Arena. It’s not that I don’t like where the students are seated in general, I just tend to be envious of setups like that of both Duke and Michigan State (Both of their student sections goes all around the court.). That being said, I think academic boosters should get the best seats in the house, they deserve them. Hell, I’ll probably be a booster one day. But in recent weeks, I have thought of a possible solution to shut us students up about the seating issues. One men’s game out of the year would be played at a different location: Memorial Coliseum.
The way I see it, we students should get a chance to see our ‘Cats up close and personal for at least one game. What better place to enjoy a men’s game than Memorial Coliseum? It is on campus, a familiar location and a great atmosphere for all collegiate sports. The catch for this game (that probably won’t happen but I’ll keep dreaming that it does)? STUDENTS ONLY! That’s right, I said it. One game a year in Memorial Coliseum for students only. Personally, I don’t believe many season ticket holders would mind sacrificing one cupcake game for students to hush up about their seats. Could you imagine how intimidating that place would be for the visiting team (Even though it would not be a problem beating them anyway, most likely.)? We play one game a year in Freedom Hall (Last year was vs. Notre Dame and this year was vs. Arkansas-Little Rock) and if the trend continues, we won’t be playing a game there for much longer. Maybe, in the future, we will see a game planned around the students. But for now, however, it looks like it’s back to Section 232-Row U-Seat 16 for me.
Happy weekend and as always…
Go cats and get used to watching them in Louisiana!
