For the third time in her career, and first this season, Chanda Bell has been named SEC pitcher of the week by league officials. Bell had an amazing series against Florida last weekend that saw her win two games, and pitch 13, count em, 13 strikeouts in the decisive game 3 of the series.
In her first game against the Gators on Friday, Bell pitched a 4 hit shutout. Florida has only suffered four shutouts all season. Bell pitched 8 strikeouts in her first outing.
In her second start in three days, Chanda pitched a 13 K game to clinch the series for the Cats. She only allowed one Florida run and only one walk.
What a time for Bell to step up as Kentucky’s season is coming down to the wire. The Cats are scratching to get to .500 in SEC play and taking 2 games against the SEC leaders was a huge step forward.
After Bell’s 2 game set against Florida, she stands only 13 strikeouts away from reaching 900 in her career as a Cat.
