University of Kentucky students are proud. And by proud, I mean cocky confident. Sorry I’m not sorry about it. We know we are the best, but we love to hear it so we can reaffirm what we have known since we first decided to attend this superior educational institute with some pretty frickin great athletics. UK Students love to publicize on twitter, and much more recently on tumblr as well. Here are a six of my favorite follows or visits when it comes to reading about our successes, more than frequently in a comedic fashion.
6. @Universityofky - This one is sort of a given. While most of the following things I’m going to post are based on athletics, I like @universityofky because they also post academic achievements, and frequently RT things incoming or exiting students have tweeted about their experiences here at UK.
5. @UKathleticsNews- I’m a big ol’ fan of UK athletic news. Rather than me trying to follow Hoops, Mens, Lacrosse, Tennis, Rifle, and all the other sports programs that now have their own twitter handles, @UKathletic news makes it easy to find all the highlights by just following one handle.
4. @DrunkCoachCal- Ok, so obviously not really Coach Cal, but this account is literally hilarious. While most of the accounts that target UL or IU use tired jokes, @DrunkCoachCal makes jokes that are so original I’ve never even heard them applied to other sports programs or teams. Handle also sells bumper stickers that donate proceeds to the general scholarship fund. Nice.
3. @KySportsRadio – On the quick fast to verification with over 50,000 followers, @KySportsRadio is taking the second highest position dedicated to twitter follows. If you somehow missed it, Matt Jones has a passion for sports and his BBN that is unlike any kind I have ever witnessed before. From the radio show, to KSTV, the website, and especially KSRc, Matt has dedicated so much time and talent into creating a wealth of knowledge that fans can turn to at any time of day. His witty and fresh coverage of sports has completely rewritten the rules to sport broadcasting, and have consequently lead to peaking an interest in Kentucky sports more completely throughout the country. #LaFamilia
2. BBNproblems.tumblr.com- Bet you haven’t heard of it yet. This tumblr account features .GIF files that have been given creative and quirky captions to describe organizations, occurrences, and people that are well known on the campus, and quite frankly I haven’t laughed this hard since the first time I watched Talladega Nights for the first time. They are not all sports based, but don’t try and say it has no place on this countdown. There are several .GIFs that address situations surrounding sports events, such as the lottery and reactions when you see an athlete on campus. Check it out. It’s brand new.
