KSTV aired the first part of the two-part interview with Mitch Barnhart yesterday with the second part airing tonight. There were a lot of interesting points made about UK athletics, specifically the football program. One of the things that stuck out to me was just how much the athletes and coaches sell the program in general.
Our editor, Ally Tucker, had interviews on the site in the beginning of the semester with the women’s soccer, softball, and volleyball coaches at UK and in those you could get an idea of how important the program is to the teams. Through interviews like these and interactions between UK athletes on Twitter, you see how supportive the athletes and coaches are of one another.
There have been numerous teams this year that have been very successful in their season, in conference tournaments, and nationally as well and throughout, the athletes have encouraged one another and praised their success. There is something special about UK athletics and it’s not hard to see. This is a program that focuses on the success of athletics as a whole, and realize they are apart of something greater than what each team or player does individually. You don’t have to work very hard at selling a team that has as much success as many of our teams have had this past year. What is unique about UK is the family atmosphere and the support that each player and team give one another.
