Coach K has stated that after the next Olympics he is not likely to return as the coach of the United States men’s Olympic basketball team.
In 2008, The United States, coached by Krzyzewski, brought home the Gold medal. In 2012, Coach K’s team should be favored to do the same. With the success of Coach K, could Calipari be next to take over in Brazil four years from now?
Now that Calipari has won a championship, I think it makes this possibility a lot more likely. There will always be the people that don’t like the way Calipari does things but it’s hard to argue with a championship ring.
The Olympic players would work perfectly with Calipari’s dribble-drive offense. It is a non-stop attacking type offense that is a perfect match for athletes like Kevin Durant and Dwyane Wade.
With all the great athletes that have come to Kentucky, it takes a special person to make them leave their ego’s behind. Calipari is all about a player’s first program and he does everything for his team but he makes sure they know they have to play together. He could blend all the talents and egos of all the professionals perfectly. He’s taken players that could of become so full of themselves and made them play together and made them want to play together. With Calipari, it isn’t about who scores, it’s about making sure they do score and he passes that on to the teams. Calipari is also very focused on defense and with NBA players, let’s be honest, they don’t always play the best defense. That mind-set could really bring a fresh perspective to the Olympic team.
I am obviously a little biased but I think that Calipari has and will continue to prove that he would make a great Olympic coach.

I love Cal as a coach and I hope he gets the job. But i feel that for the olympics they want more of a team first coach rather then a players first coach.
