2012 SEC Tournament: Mississippi State vs Kentucky

by @ 1:00 pm. Filed under Baseball

The Cats and the Bulldogs should be about an hour away from first pitch (depending on the speed of the LSU vs Ole Miss elimiation game).  It will be a game in which the Cats will not only be looking to advance to the semifinals but extract revenge from the Mississippi State club that swept them last weekend.  The game will be televised on Fox Sports South and can be heard on 630 WLAP in Lexington and 1080 WKJK in Louisville.

UK will be the fresher team as they had yesterday off while Mississippi State will be playing their third game in as many days.  The Cats will start junior left-hander Jerad Grundy.  Grundy pitched against the Bulldogs last Friday where he worked 4 (2/3) innings and allowed four runs in a 4-3 Wildcat loss.  The stat line is deceiving though as Grundy pitched very well, except for one pitch.  He hung a breaking ball over the middle of the plate that ended up being a three run homerun.  Without it, the Cats win 3-1.  In addition to Grundy, the Cats will have a fully stocked bullpen, something Gary Henderson said the team “has to take advantage of.”

Fortunately for the Cats, one of the nation’s top pitchers will not be on the mound for the Bulldogs as they used staff ace Chirs Stratton to defeat LSU.  The most likely candidate would be Kendall Graveman who started oppostie Grundy last Friday and gave up three runs in 3 (2/3) innings of work.

If the Cats win they will advance to the semifinals and play Saturday at 1pm.  If they lose the will play in an elimination game tomorrow at 3pm.
