The Women’s 4×100 meter relay team competed today to round out the Kentucky representation down in Jacksonville. Keilah Tyson scratched from the relay so Tamyah Pipkin, Kayla Parker, Shiara Robinson, and Julie Nunn made up the squad. The girls ran a 45.59 in the race to place 19th. That time is right at their seed time they were entered with so there’s no complaining here. They didn’t make it to nationals, but 19th is a great showing. Shout out to the ladies for doing their thing all season. Our 4×100 squad was very impressive.
That does it for the weekend. Here’s a quick wrap up showing who qualified for nationals: The list is a little shorter than expected but in track, stuff happens…. Let’s embrace our qualifiers and get ready to cheer them on from our couches while they compete for the University of Kentucky. Remember Nationals are June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.
1) Raymond Dykstra – Javelin – 8th place- 222 feet 9 inches.
2) Andrew Evans – Discus – 8th place – 182 feet 7 inches.
3) Luis Orta – 3000 meter steeplechase – 11th place – 8:44.25.
None of these guys are seniors! I like the sound of that…
The guys team carried the weight as far as national qualifiers go but the Women have a lot of youth to build off. The good thing is the guys do too. The throws unit was strong as always and my man Luis did his thing in the Steeplechase. Just in case you’re still wondering what a steeplechase is here is a race video.
