The Boathouse in Destin, FL

Recently, I spent two weeks in Navarre, FL on a post-graduation vacation. And as I have mentioned before, I am one of four daughters to huge UK fan parents. I am now UK alum and am even more proud to be a part of the Big Blue Nation, a fan-base that takes passion to another level.

While I was relaxing on the beach, my family was back home in Northern Kentucky, hangin’ with Jorts. Yes, Josh Harrellson made a visit to NKY this past week to catch up with friends, and showed up at my house to give my family and our friends the surprise of a lifetime. Unfortunately, I was not able to be a part of the fun Jorts brought to the Matthews household, but everyone sent me pictures and videos that I would love to share with you. I received this in an e-mail, from our friends, with the hopes of posting a tribute to Jorts as a token of appreciation for what he did for their son and my sisters:

“Former UK basketball players are more than just Kentucky household names; they are everyday people who are willing to interact with fans both young and old.  Case and point, recently Josh Harrellson was in Northern Kentucky with friends. He took the time to make a visit to surprise two twelve year old boys who are huge UK fans. Josh went above and beyond any expectations we could have imagined.  He took time to sign autographs and take pictures with the boys. As if that wasn’t enough, he said to the boys, “So, are we going to play basketball or what?” The boys eyes lit up!  Jorts wanted to play basketball with them!  Even though he had plans with friends, he played basketball for over an hour with the boys, and girls.  Josh is not only a great basketball player; he is a genuinely nice guy who is a wonderful role model for all.  Thank you, Jorts for making two boys’ dreams come true!  You are the best! Love, your newest friends.”

Josh could have simply drove over and picked up my sister without even coming inside to say hello. But, he took time to come over, hang out, sign autographs, and play basketball for over an hour. He put the fans before himself and honestly enjoyed every minute of it. My parents told me that he smiled the whole time and looked just as happy as the boys he was hooping with.

It’s a proven fact now, that our beloved Jorts is genuine and down-to-earth because he made dreams come true for fans of the BBN.

The videos my parents filmed were to large to download to the site and were too large to post on YouTube and then post here, but take my word for it: Josh Harrellson is a class act.
