My main man Luis Orta just competed in the men’s 3000 meter steeplechase and he unfortunately failed to qualify for Saturday’s finals. Official time has not been released. This does not take away from the junior’s amazing season, however.
Luis was the SEC indoor champion in the men’s 5000 and 3000 meter. He was named the SEC men’s indoor runner of the year and came out of the indoor season with the 8th best 3000 meter mark in school history as well as the 4th best indoor 5k time in school history. The times were 8:08 and 14:02.
Luis’ outdoor season was not short of pizzazz either. He was the runner up in the SEC outdoor championships in the steeplechase and came out of this season with the 2nd best all time UK mark in the Steeple with an 8:44. Luis still has another track season to break a few records and place at nationals so do not despair.
That does it for the track season folks. More will be written soon in recap. Andrew Evans placed 7th in the Men’s Discus and Raymond Dykstra placed 6th in the Javelin. UK will come away with 5 team points on the Men’s side. Although the representation at Nationals was small, UK track made strides this year. The throws unit continued to dominate but the youngsters gained valuable experience. Next year will be interesting, that’s for sure.
