Coach Cal, MKG and Doron Lamb spoke to the media today before they headed to South Carolina to take on the fake USC in what should be another tough road test. A few notes from the press conference…
-Cal isn’t worried about the freshmen getting worn out at this point in the season. He noted that by February, most teams really start to feel the effects of a long, grinding season, but the freshmen are handling it well.
“I think all four of them are getting better, learning, attentive, focused. I think they’re the first four in there (the gym) because they’re excited about playing,” Cal said.
-No game is more important than another. When asked whether he thought he’d have a problem keeping the team from looking ahead to other games in the season, Cal noted that they’re taking the season one game at a time.
“I‘m gonna go in there today like I did when we played North Carolina or anybody else.”
-Cal thinks South Carolina is a lot better than when Kentucky beat them at Rupp earlier this season. He said a couple South Carolina players have improved offensively. He also noted that their recent record is misleading because they have been competitive in nearly every game but have just had trouble closing games out.
-Cal doesn’t mind road games. He said that chemistry is built when the whole team is together, and there is a lot of that during road trips.
“When you go on the road, you’re together the whole time for two days. Meals, shootarounds, film sessions, you really start coming together.”
-Kidd-Gilchrist doesn’t watch South Carolina games. When asked if he watched South Carolina almost pull off an upset at Florida last night, MKG said he didn’t find time to catch that game.
“No I didn’t watch that game. I don’t follow South Carolina like that,” MKG said.
-Doron Lamb is impressed with the success of the UK’s women’s team, but not too impressed. One reporter asked him what would happen if the men’s and women’s teams scrimmaged. Lamb sounded confident to say the least.
“We’d beat the girls team by like 100 points if we played them. We could give them 20 points and still beat them by 100.”
Make sure to tune in tomorrow night at 6 to watch UK beat up on the chickens. Go Cats!

Ha, I hope Lamb was playfully joking cause 1) that’s kinda rude and 2) definitely incorrect
Men’s team definitely has length and size on the women but they definitely have speed and scrappiness

I like hearing his take on the rookies late in the season.
